How To Shop For Summer Essentials Wisely

How To Shop For Summer Essentials Wisely

Essentials are the items that will be there when all the trends go out of season/style. That is why building a wardrobe full of essentials first is my main priority for my personal style clients. Summer time is here which means it is time to start budgeting, investing, and shopping for your summer essentials. No need to feel like you have to drop hundreds of dollars if that is not in your budget.

"Shop for quality not quantity"! – Christina

An excellent summer essential piece to buy is a bathing suit. Many of us are afraid to wear a bathing suit because we haven't invested time to see which one will work for our body. Depending on your needs you may need to spend more or less. A great quality bathing suit can last you years- 20 or more beach trips or over a dozen pool parties! So how do you shop wisely when your budget level is low?

#1: Invest in Time - Take some time out of your day to really get into the racks and find what you like. Don't go in with only a few minutes to spare or rushing with the kids. Get a minimum of 5 items in two different sizes to shorten the try on time- get your real size and your comfortable size.

#2: Know the Material – In the summer time the right fabric can help you look and feel amazing. The wrong fabric can make you look like a sweaty mess and show too much. My biggest question from clients is "how do I stay cool but look great"?. One of my top tips is to find clothes with great breathable fabrics. Staying cool in the summer is important for many reasons that include health, fashion and comfort. The goal is to allow the maximum amount of air through the fabric so the body feels cooler. Look for these fabrics when shopping: Linen•Cotton•Lace•Light Silk• Georgette•Chambray!

#3: Plan according to your Itinerary – Instead of buying everything cute item in your favorite store shop according to your summer itinerary. Going on vacation? Planning adult pool time or parties for the kids, shop for that occasion. Get the most wear out of your items. Sit down and write out your plans for the summer. Does your planned summer lifestyle match how you are picking your items? If no, it is time to plan according to your itinerary.

Figuring out where to shop for your size and budget can be frustrating. The end result is wasting money on items that are good enough NOT perfect for your authentic image!

Best Dresses for Graduation

Best Dresses for Graduation

It's officially May, the month of finals and graduation!! Hopefully, by now you have your cap and gown, tickets for everyone attending, and your outfit in mind.

Graduation is one of the biggest milestones in your life from high school to college. You have worked hard to get to this point and when you cross that stage your life is going to change. I want to take this time and congratulate you if you are graduating!!!!!

On your big day it can be filled with so much emotion and thoughts. What do I do next? Now I have to pack up and get ready for college. Or I have to pack up and move so I can work. Don't let the big day stress you out. Live in the moment, take lots of pictures, and of course look stylish.

I can't help you live in the moment or take your photos, but I can help you look stylish in all your photos so they look amazing when you post them on social media! :)

It's going to be big smiles as you hold your diploma or degree, have a dress to match your excitement.

No worries we've got you covered. Below are some of the best dresses you can wear for graduation! When looking for a great dress for graduation I recommend the following:

1. Determine if it is a day or night graduation.
2. Indoor or Outdoor?
3. Warm or Cold temperatures?
4. Budget.
5. What are your after plans? Party or dinner?
6. Is there a dress code?

Longer Lashes in 30 Seconds

Longer Lashes in 30 Seconds

Spring is here (WOOHOO) and it is time to brighten your look and the easiest way to do so is with your lashes!

Eye lashes make a BIG difference in your overall makeup or no makeup look. I love long thick lashes but I am not a fan of wearing false lashes all the time.

Yes, they are gorgeous. Yes, the can change your look. Yes, they are fun. However, they can pull your real lashes out if not applied or removed properly.

So instead of balding your lash line I recommend using my new BFF- LASH PRIMER!

Lash primer is not new the beauty world but it never really gets discussed.

Instead of doubling and tripling applications of mascara on your lashes - which can make them clumpy. I strongly recommend using L'Oreal Primer before applying your favorite mascara.

The benefits of using a lash primer including:

  1. Boost lash length.
  2. Separates lashes.
  3. Helps mascara last longer.
  4. Includes vitamins that are healthy for lashes.
  5. Makes mascara easy to remove.

Step 1: Curl lashes.
Step 2: Apply lash primer and allow to dry for about 10-30 seconds depending on how much you apply of product.
Step 3: Apply desired mascara.
Step 4: Enjoy long voluminous lashes. :)

Since using a mascara primer I have noticed that it does not take a lot of makeup remover to clean my eye lashes at the end of the day. This is awesome because tugging at the eye is NEVER healthy because it can cause wrinkles.

So if you want longer lashes in 30 minutes give the L'Oreal Voluminous Primer a try. It is a drugstore product which will cost you only $5.99.

Have you ever used a lash primer? If so which brand do you recommend? Let us know in the Facebook Group or leave your comment below. :)

Capes + Bright Colors

Capes + Bright Colors

Welcome to the blog if this is your first visit! Welcome back if you are a frequent reader. I have missed posting outfits for you all sooooo much. I have some beautiful pieces from Tobi to show you below. I also want to share with you some chic ways to transition into the new season.

As a style coach my clients biggest concern lately is how to transition their wardrobe. So let's talk about the weather and how to maintain your style as you transition into the new season.

Spring is trying its best to arrive next week however, winter just won't go away like that annoying zit before head shots day. Since it is not sunny skies and warm temperatures consistently it can be frustrating on what to wear everyday. Raise your hand if majority of your closet is filled with every season! I have open toe shoes, wool coats, knit sweaters, and a sun hat on display just in case it's 20-75 degrees in the same week.

If you have been feeling frustrated and feeling unsure on what to wear until the weather makes it's mind up no worries here are some ways to transition effortlessly:
  1. Slowly start incorporating bright colors into your look. Try adding a bright colored scarf, handbag, or coat. Instead of grabbing the black cape coat above I added a pink wool coat as my pop of color.
  2. LAYER! This is one of my favorites and it makes your outfit just look like it was effortlessly created. Throw on some jeans, crew neck long sleeve blouse, sweater, jacket, and ankle boots. Also, add on a hat or scarf. Get creative with your layers. DON'T layer 3 sweaters..lol
  3. Show a little leg. Yes, it's time to start shaving your legs! Wear a midi skirt or dress with heels or flats to show a little skin and lose the tights. Of course if it extremely cold in your city try the cut out shoulder sweater tops.
What do you like to wear when transitioning seasons? Have a tip? Share it below with the other ladies. :)

Outfit 1:
Tobi Cape Coat  // Fedora Hat// Dress (old)//
Heels (similar)

Outfit 2:
Tobi Pink Wool Coat// Sunnies (old)//
Pants (Target)

How to Find & Keep Your Style In Corporate America

How to Find & Keep Your Style In Corporate America

Growing up you where always told professional means a suit and heels. If you don't invest in a nice quality suit or a classy pair of heels you will not be seen as a professional. I am here to take that embedded information out of your mind. Why? Because you are wasting your money!

If you are ages 24-35 put the black, navy or grey suite back on the rack. I know you're thinking, "that is what is expected of me to wear in corporate America."

Don't get me wrong having a suit and heels are essential however, buying in multiples is not what I suggest. The reason I don't recommend buying a ton of quality pieces at a young age in corporate America is because you are still evolving.

Let's be honest do you still work at our first job? When you are coming out of college or still finding yourself spending a ton of money on clothes feels great. However, you end up feeling like you have nothing to wear in the future.

Besides our career paths changing our bodies, loves, hates, personalities, and goals change.

When I got in my position I knew it wouldn't be the last job of my life. I have always dreamed of helping others - not from behind a desk.

Just because you work in corporate America it does not mean you have to lose your personal style or transform to a boring dress code. Of course you don't want to wear half naked clothes but you also don't have to dress like a nun or man to get respect. (No disrespect toward nuns or men)

How do I know this? I worked in corporate America for over 3 years and almost lost myself. When I first started my job I thought I needed plain suits and basic color tops. I wore a black suit and felt so uncomfortable. One day walking into the office I looked at the glass door and saw someone I didn't recognize. I went from bright colors, prints, heels, makeup, and hair done to an all black outfit, no makeup, and my hair in a half brushed ponytail. I felt and looked like I was going to a funeral not to work. This is when I realized I can't let a job stop me from embracing my personal style.

If you’re working in corporate America or an entrepreneur you need to stay true to your personal style. This helps others identify with you and will help you be confident in your role.

Just think about it... Have you ever wore something uncomfortable or not really your style? Did you perform your best or was the discomfort always on your mind?

When you choose to be authentic you choose to be confident. Don't waste who you are trying to identify with the "American standard" of style!

#1: Test out different colors and silhouettes. - Learn your power color and which silhouettes look best on your body.

#2: Don't let others influence your style. - If others don't care about their image don't stop caring about yours. Having a polished, professional, and poised image will pay off.

#3: Learn your company’s culture- Many of us take jobs and don't understand the company’s culture. Research the company to prevent getting mistreated or feeling uncomfortable in your style.

Do you have an office job or work in corporate America? Do you feel like your image doesn't portray your professionalism or personal style? Let me know your opinion below or in the FaceBook community PinkLux Babes.

Truth About Dressing Your Shape

Truth About Dressing Your Shape

I believe there is a fashionista in all of us we just have to learn how to pull her out and embrace her. When it comes to fashion it can feel a little overwhelming if your trying to figure out how to shop or dress your shape.

If you are curvy you may feel like you have to buy everything with elastic or cotton, but that is totally NOT true!

If you are straight size you may feel like you can wear everything, but that is totally not true either!

The truth is we've been lied too by magazines, shows, clothing lines and our ancestors that we only can dress a certain way. Today I have to crush those lies and only tell the truth about dressing your shape!

"I place my right hand over the leopard pumps and will tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help me fashionistas!"

Let's continue..

#1: Proportions ARE important!-
Wearing the wrong proportions can make you appear shorter, longer, wider, or skinnier. For example, grab a belt with a high-waisted skirt to give your body some shape (it will also make your legs look longer...petite girls this is a bonus) If you have short legs stay way from ankle straps and skirts that come to the calf- they cut off the leg and you appear shorter and wider.

#2: A GREAT fit is where it is at!-
Want to look like a million bucks when you rock your outfit? Get it tailored to fit perfectly! Remember it's all in the details when it comes to being a fashionista and a tailored look is a detail you don't want to miss! A $3 thrift store stress can look as great as a $300 dress if it's tailored to fit you! Maybe you need the hem taken up to elongate your legs or your blazer sleeves taken up to come to your wrist. If you love the item get the details right.

#3: Junk the book of RULES!-
Being an inbetweenie, I have heard so many times that I can't wear horizontal stripes, white after labor day, bodycon dresses, crop blouses....blah blah blah...well today we are throwing those rules in the garbage. Ladies, we can wear white after labor day....we can wear crop tops etc! BREAK THE RULES! Wear sequins after the holiday- just tell them you love to shine! When you step out your comfort zone you embrace your style. It feels AMAZING!

What are some truths about dressing your shape? Have you figured them out? Share them with us in the private Facebook group>>PinkLux Babes<<

Don't let others ruin or run your style! Embrace the fashionista in YOU!

Until next time stay Lux...Be Unique...Be YOU!

Your Image Matters More Than Ever!

Your Image Matters More Than Ever!

Growing up I was always told to let my image speak for its self. If I wanted to be taken serious in the legal field, corporate world, or in life I had to look like I meant business. Most importantly, I had to stay authentic and true to myself.

But I had to stop and ask myself, how do I look like I mean business?

Do I wear a blazer like everyone else? Because a blazer says business....right? Do I tone down my personality and look serious all the time? Can't smile if you mean business...right? No, these can't be right!

"Your image is like a book. Make sure the cover reflects the quality of the story inside."

What does this mean? I had to work on my overall image including my appearance, verbal/non verbal communication, behavior and how I carried myself online.

Yes, even your online image matters especially in the social media generation we live in today! Have you ever liked a person, followed them on social media, and thought...this is not the person I met? Now their image in your mind is ruined...

Don't let that happen to you...their is a difference in being real and being ruthless.

So why does your image matter more than ever?

Let's break it down...

  1. Due to growth in all industries, you must stand out to get that job, follower or client.
  2. To be a leader you have to look like one... NOW! No more waiting or making excuses.
  3. Because someone is always looking and we want to make and everlasting impression.
  4. Because you are not average but elite and deserve to give that perspective.
  5. Because you want to be the best version of YOU!

So...How many times did you say "I have nothing to wear" last year? Did you say it today?

So....How much longer are you going to wait to get help to improve your professional and personal image?

So....How many thousands of dollars will you waste this year on clothes that don't fit your style?

So...When will you start working on your communication skills, digital presence and etc?

In 2017 refuse to go on in life stuck in a style/image rut. You matter, your style matters, and your image matters!

Join me for the 3 part workshop series "Power of Image" starting January 25th- January 27th. Sign up today HERE.

Until next time...Stay Lux...Be Unique...Be YOU!

Your First Step to Building Your Wardrobe in 2017

Your First Step to Building Your Wardrobe in 2017

Hey babe! So about 2 weeks ago I had the opportunity to go on the local television show Talk of Alabama that comes on ABC 33/40. I had such a great time chatting with Javante (host) about a couple of things you need to do to prep and build your wardrobe in 2017.

I definitely recommend watching this video before hitting the after holiday sales and building your "new me" wardrobe for 2017.

Guys are also included in this episode! So share with them because they deserve to look GQ at every age!

Remember....
"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." - Benjamin Franklin
Just click HERE to view the full video. Make sure to have your pen and paper to take notes.

Also, remember to show your personality in each outfit recommendation. That is makes you unique and that is what others love about you!

We get to choose our style and our image. What do you want yours to say? I hope you have a beautiful stylish day!

New Year, Be ME!

New Year, Be ME!

Happy New Year!!! Are you ready for growth and to reach beyond the limits?

Every year I make resolutions that of course I never keep pass March... so instead of making resolutions I am making goals. Very specific goals! I am going to continue to work on the goals I created in 2016 because that is part of the growing process.

If you stop everything just because it is a new year how can you see the results?

It is a new year, I am going to grow (not taller..those dreams stopped at age 15 but anyway) and I am going to be ME! No pretending to be perfect and have everything figured out. Some things won't change like me doing the dishes-thank God for dishwashers-, being a workaholic, still liking Hello Kitty, and figuring out how to grow the business everyday.

I will grow in many ways this year and those are the days I looking forward too this year.

This year I proclaim it to be the year of "growth"!

Rather it's your image, wardrobe, relationship, business idea, mentally, or patience it all needs to grow to prosper.

I believe all beautiful things have to grow to be successful and that even applies to the person as a whole.

My growth goals of the year include:

1. I will help 200 paid clients build an authentic image for professional or personal life so they can stop wasting money, feel confident everyday, and shine in their lane.
2. I will hire a team to grow the business and brand.
3. I will book 37 makeup clients a month.
4. I will read 3 new books a month pertaining to personal growth, business, and non-fiction.
5. I will go home to see my family in Indiana.
6. I will speak at a women's conference.
7. I will lose 50 lbs. and keep it off.
8. I will launch the second round of "Power of Image" and have a 5 figure launch.
9. I will have a bigger and better Inbetweenie/Plus Size fashion show.
10. I will be featured for the business and/or brand in B-Metro and mainstream magazine.
11. I will be consistent on the blog and increase monthly readers to 35,000.
12. I will grow the current and new relationships built.
13. I will have peace and joy no matter the trials or tribulations in 2017!

*If you noticed I put "I will" in front of each of my goals. This helps the mind see it already happening. Next you will hear me saying "I did"!*

To help you prepare and grow in 2017 I recommend doing this quick exercise I learned from Chalene Johnson

1. What was the smartest thing you did last year?
2. List 2 things that you NEVER want to have happen again (if possible).
3. Identify 3 very high stress moments. What could have made those times a little easier?
4. What 4 things went really, really well? Why?
5. List 5 things you did last year that you could do better.
6. Out of everything you did last year to help other people, what 1 thing made you feel the best?

I will be perfecting everything I learned last year and applying it to my growth process. Will you join me?

Join the free Facebook group to get accountability, beauty tips, fashion tips and be apart of women who get it!
