PinkLux: August Inbetweenie Spotlight

PinkLux: August Inbetweenie Spotlight

Over the last few weeks I have been hinting at a few new things coming to the PinkLux community and the monthly Inbetweenie Spotlight is just one of the new additions. I created the inbetweenie spotlight to showcase inbetweenies who love beauty, fashion or nominated showing strong confidence. If you would like to be or nominate an inbetweenie please email pink.lux.pl@gmail.com.

The August Inbetweenie Spotlight goes to fashion blogger Sarah of Sassy Red Lipstick. I have been following Sarah for some time now and she always represents curvy and inbetweenie women beautifully through her post and on social media. Here's a little about Sarah:

Tell us a little about your blog? How do you use it to influence others?

I started Sassy Red Lipstick in 2013 as a creative outlet to showcase my style. I’ve always loved fashion and it’s always been a big part of my life. I first started interning at Nordstrom my sophomore year of high school and have worked on and off for the company since. In college, I interned in NYC at a fashion forward ad agency, and it was upon my return from that internship that I started my blog. Living in the Big Apple really helped me realize how special individual style is and how much it can inspire others.

A few years into blogging, I started to realize that I wanted to do more than just share my outfits. I wanted to help other women feel confident in themselves. I noticed that there weren’t many women, especially bloggers, out there who openly talked about body positivity and honoring your curves {meaning your body!}. I felt the need to share my story about gaining my own confidence and learning to love my body type. The overwhelming support I received when doing so confirmed what I believed: women have a hard time loving their body {no matter the shape} and there’s not enough body positive role models in the blogging or social media world. Since then, it’s been an amazing experience for me to talk opening about learning to love my body, accepting my shape, and sharing that with the world! I’m definitely an inbetweenie and rock it proudly.

Can you give us three to five tips on how to dress your body no matter the shape or size?

Tips to dress for your body {no matter the shape or size}:
1. Dress in trends that flatter your shape. Not every trend will work for every body shape, and that’s okay! I will never be able to wear culottes because of my thick thighs, and I’m okay with that.
2. If you believe you feel and look good in something, rock it! Confidence will go farther than any outfit ever will.
3. Don’t dress how others tell you to. There’s a reason it’s called personal style.
4. Balance your shape. If you’re wearing boyfriend jeans, wear a fitted tee. If you’re wearing skinny jeans, balance with a flowy top! It’s all about balance when it goes to dressing for your shape.
5. Feel good, look good.

Where do you get your style inspiration and confidence to rock your personal style? What advice would you give to young ladies and women struggling in this area?

As a blogger, I still read other bloggers’ blogs. It’s one of the things I like to do in the morning before I get to work! I love seeing what others are wearing, how they put together outfits, and how I can style something similar {or completely different}. I follow a lot of fashion bloggers on IG, too, but I also think it’s important to follow motivational people or accounts, as well. It’s fun to look at pretty photos, but people who inspire me with their story or what they stand for are even more important to me when it comes to inspiration. For example, I love following Ashley Graham on Instagram and Snapchat. She seriously is the epitome of confidence and I can relate to her shape!

I think it really truly does take time to learn to love your body. I didn’t hate my body in high school, but I didn’t love it either. In college, there were times I absolutely hated it. It’s taken me time to learn to love my body and my best advice would be to always think positive. If you don’t love something, try thinking about what you do love. Or better yet, for me, if there’s something I’m not happy with, I head to the gym. I know my body won’t change in one workout, but I always feel better once I start sweating. I’ll always be a thicker girl, but it’s important to stay healthy {physically and mentally}, too.

What are the essentials you believe every inbetweenie/woman should have in her wardrobe?

A skinny jean with some stretch. My body and thick thighs do NOT fit into jeans without stretch.
A wrap dress. Easily the most flattering dress in my closet. Hugs in all the right places and skims over other areas.
A killer pair of heels. There’s nothing better than a sky high pair of heels. They make your legs look longer and elevate any pair of jeans.
A unique one piece. I loveeeeee my one piece swimsuits and am constantly on the hunt for more! They hold everything in, boost the girls, and finding fun patterns or cutouts make the your beach outfit fun.

What have you enjoyed most about being a fashion blogger and body positive influencer?

As a blogger, it’s always an amazing accomplishment to work with big brands. There’s lot of gifted clothes and accessories. There’s fun staycations, vacations, and cool experiences. But honestly, my very part about blogging is getting to hear from real women. When people send lengthy emails about how I’ve helped them become more confident in themselves or love their bodies more, I just want to cry. Because that’s where I’m actually making a difference. I believe we leave this earth with very little, and helping others feel good about themselves is something that I can take with me. I hope each of my followers knows that I am a real woman. Email me, let’s chat! If you’re in SF, let’s grab lunch! I’m a person with real feelings, who just so happens to share with the world most of my life. Let’s be friends and help each other in this world. There’s nothing I love more than women supporting other women. xx

Must Have Items In Your Makeup Bag

Must Have Items In Your Makeup Bag

How many times have you gone in the drugstore and didn't know what to choose? Or you went to the department store makeup counter and they made it seem like you needed everything? Unless you have a love for makeup or your a makeup artist you DON'T need everything.

With so many makeup products to choose from it can get very confusing on what you need to have in your makeup bag. With YouTube and social media it seems like there is always a new product or someone telling you "need" this or that.

I remember when I first started wearing makeup I only wore lip gloss, eye shadow and mascara. Now my makeup bag has grown and it includes many more products. If you still only wear those 3 things that is totally fine but when you want to really take your look up a notch these are the must have items to have in your makeup bag.

These items are perfect to create your everyday look. If you are a beginner or you have been using makeup for years there are a few things you may be missing in your makeup bag, that can really take your look to the next level with little to no effort.

I recommend buying products that can be worn everyday and very few occasional products.

In the summer months your skin will tan so I recommend keeping bronzer with you to darken the outer part of the face. This will prevent you from buying multiple shades of foundation.

  1. Foundation (liquid or powder) or Tinted Moisturizer (personal preference)
  2. Setting powder or a powder compact (personal preference)
  3. Blush/Bronzer
  4. Mascara
  5. Primer
  6. Lipstick
  7. Nude Eyeliner (try to find one close to your skin tone)
  8. Travel Brush Set
What are your must have items in your makeup bag? *Items will vary depending on skin type.*

Until next time..

Green Ruffle Dress+Pink Wedges

Green Ruffle Dress+Pink Wedges

Heeeeeyyyyyy Lux Babes!!! I am Back! I took a break to really enjoy my birthday- which is something I have never done. It felt amazing to sleep and enjoy family & friends.

However, I couldn't stay away too long...I totally missed my peeps! While relaxing by the pool I was able to really reevaluate the path for PinkLux and create some awesome upcoming events for you! Let's be honest I can't just not think about PinkLux.

I want to thank you for the emails, FaceBook posts, texts, calls, DM messages, and so much more for the B-Day wishes. I am truly blessed to have you in my tribe!

Now let's discuss this pink and green outfit.....

If you don't know by now...my favorite color is pink. My second favorite color is green, so when I am able to wear both, I am a happy girl. I love ruffles because of the girly vibe they give any piece of clothing. In the summertime I love wearing wedges for comfort and to prevent the annoying sliding of the feet.

This dress was so comfortable, chic, and lux approved. I have worn it so many times and it never disappoints. What is that one item you love wearing over and over? Let me know below....

Denim Off the Shoulder Top + Color Blocking

Denim Off the Shoulder Top + Color Blocking

Heeyyyy Lux Babe!!! I am sure you can totally tell I love the off the shoulder trend this season. I love how it instantly makes your look girly and romantic. The off the shoulder trend shows just enough skin without feeling like you are showing all your goodies.

This denim off the shoulder top was perfect for my personal style. It consist of ruffles, high low silhouette, and of course the off the shoulder trend. I liked the high low silhouette of the blouse however, it was a little to high in the front for my liking. To solve that problem I simply wore the top backwards. Yep you read that right!

Remember babe if something doesn't wear well one way try it on backwards. I also love to wear my revealing dresses backwards to show a sexxy back detail.

The only one that knows you are wearing it backwards is.....YOU!

I chose to wear this blouse with mint green jeans and chunky pink wedges to color block the look. I feel like it gave it that extra touch of girlishness. What do you think?

You can totally wear this look to run errands (I did) or a cute comfortable casual date night. Wearing the wedge sandals made the outfit very comfortable and suitable for long walking periods of time.

6 Top Sweat-Proof Setting Sprays For Summer

6 Top Sweat-Proof Setting Sprays For Summer

Hey Lux Babes!!! It is almost the weekend and if you are like me that is when the fun really starts! Woohoo....

Outside events, weddings, and just doing everyday errands can make you sweat. Take on the heat in this 102 degrees and rising weather by using a setting spray.

A sweat proof setting spray should mattify your face and remove the appearance of shiny areas without ruining your makeup. I recommend holding it about 2-3 inches from the face to prevent large amounts of product in one spot.

Keep your makeup in place or prevent excessive sweating by trying one of the 6 top sweat-proof setting sprays for summer!

My favorite is the Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray. OMG babe, this setting spray is AMAZING!!! I use it on all of my clients before and after applying makeup during the summer. It is like magic in a bottle and definitely a beauty must have!

I love to use this on myself before stepping out the house to prevent looking like a grease ball throughout the day.

Want to learn how to use your setting spray 5 different ways to help your look stay put? Join me on Periscope tonight July 7th at 6:30 p.m. CST!

Green Culotte Jumpsuit + Sunnies

Green Culotte Jumpsuit + Sunnies

Happy Tuesday Lux Babes!!! It totally felt weird to have a holiday on Monday...I just want to put that out there. The 4 day weekend was amazing! It felt amazing to close the laptop and focus on family and friends BUT the weekend is over and it is time to get back to my second family- YOU!

I have been loving the culotte style even though I am considered too short to wear the trend. But who cares? I break rules when it comes to my style!

I still remember the first day I saw this green culotte jumpsuit. It was a rainy spring day in April and I had 5 new magazines to look through. I flipped the page and this perfect summer jumpsuit screamed "Buy ME"! I went online and the jumpsuit was not available yet! Don't you just love when magazines do that...

Two weeks later it was finally available for purchase. It was also on sale one week later for 50% off so I knew it was perfect for me. I couldn't pass up an awesome sale.

When it arrived it was extremely to small. I usually wear a large or xl depending on the fabric. In this green culotte jumpsuit I had to go 2 sizes up, which was a 3XL. It fit perfect so I didn't care about the size.

This is definitely an item that can transition from work to night or warm to cold. I threw on a blazer for work and removed it once I went out for dinner. I also love how it quenched in my waist to give me a shape.

Make sure to really highlight your shoulders and collar bone to glow this summer in items that show a little skin.

If you are 5'3 and an inbetweenie or plus size don't be afraid to try the culotte style. They are perfect for summer!
