5 Questions You Must Ask When Buying Clothes

5 Questions You Must Ask When Buying Clothes

Ok, ladies the holidays are among us and you know what that means..holiday events, parties and family get togethers. This is also the time of the year we "shop until we drop"! With Cyber Money  and Black Friday coming up I know we will be doing a lot of shopping (I know I will), but don't get "shopping happy" and buy clothes you do not need just because they are on sale. Trust me ladies, you will regret it later while the stores are happy with your money.

I buy all of my clothes online on Cyber Monday because they are cheaper and I can usually find a great discount/promotion code. Before spending your Benjamin's (money $$) this holiday season on clothes answer these 5 questions:

1. Is this item worth the price?

Remember ALOT of items are marked up and placed with a discount to make it seem like you are getting a great deal. Look at the material and quality of the item. Don't spend $35 dollars on a polyester sweater if you can get a cashmere sweater for the same price. Also, consider if it will need to be dry cleaned or can it be washed at home. If it is dry clean only consider this a fee to wear the garment.

2.Will I be wearing this one time or adding it to my essentials list?

If you are buying an outfit for a one time event try not to spend to much money because it will end up hanging in your closet. I recommend buying items at this time of the year to add to your wardrobe essentials list. The best thing about essentials such as a little black dress (LBD) are they can be worn dressed up or dressed down and can transition throughout the year.

3. Can I find this style somewhere cheaper?

Right now is the time to be looking at the deals and stores that you will be shopping at on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Once you have your list together compare and contrast! This will save you so much money and time because you won't have regrets later when you see that must have handbag cheaper at Macy's.

Short story: Two years ago I wanted a brown satchel handbag sooooo bad that once I saw it in Dillard's on Black Friday I purchased it! I didn't think about it because I wanted it....not my best purchase. Dillard's was the first store I went into once I got into the mall...lets fast forward 2 hours. I walk into Macy's at the other mall and see the same handbag for $200 LESS!!! I was so upset but I was out of town so I couldn't go back and return the handbag. This situation taught me to create a strategy even for shopping.

4. Do I have anything to wear with this?

If you see something that you like and have to think more than 20 second about if you have something else to wear with it then you probably shouldn't buy it. Remember to shop smart not quick! This will save you coins and give you extra money to buy things you really want. Also, you won't have to buy other items to wear with one item.

I can't lie I have this problem when it comes to shoes. I buy multiple pairs of shoes with plans on buying the outfit later... "Hello everyone, my name is Christina and I am addicted to shoes!" I am working on this ladies...pray for me. :)

5. Will this fit if I gain a little weight?

This is a new question I started asking myself because over the holidays I always gain 2-3 pounds- it's all the delicious food. However, Cyber Monday is after I have eaten and I don't realize that the clothes I bought might be a little snug in 5-7 days (shipping time). Don't buy clothes with the anticipation of losing weight in the new year. Buy clothes that will fit you now and if you do lose weight they can be worn with a belt or worn oversized.

Check your Christmas list and make sure your getting your wardrobe essentials this holiday season.

Fall Hair Pick-Me Ups

Fall Hair Pick-Me Ups

Fall has finally arrived in Alabama which means it is time to bring out those beautiful sweaters and boots we have been dying to wear! It also means it is time to change up your hair routine. We all use heat protectant, UV protectant and the other 50 types of protectants to keep our hair healthy in the summer but when it comes to other months we end up slacking.

It was about 2 years ago I started noticing my hair was dry and breaking off with just a touch or finger comb. I couldn't understand why my hair was breaking, I did the usual wash, condition and deep condition but still the same issue. I thought I was sick or worse... going bald! (I was super dramatic) I also thought maybe is was my hair products so I did a little research and realized my hair products had "ALCOHOL"in the ingredients. (Ex: Pantene) Alcohol is harmful to the hair because it dries out the scalp and hair cuticle, which causes hair to be damaged. The products that contain alcohol also contain a silicon base. The silicon base makes your hair seem like it is healthy but however these products coat the hair instead of making the hair healthy and moisturized from within the cuticle.

Hair Myth: Only the sun/hot days damage your hair because of the heat and UV rays.

Fact: The truth is that even on cloudy dry days your hair gets damaged! Why? The moisture is being sucked out the hair cuticle and not being manually applied by you daily. In comparison to sun damage, the dryness of the fall crisp air can do the same if not worse damage to your hair. It doesn't matter if your hair is straight or curly you must protect and moisturize your hair year around.

How to Fix Problem: Does your hair ever feel like dried out hay (yes the stuff on a farm)? If so try the Fall Hair Pick-Me Ups below. These products and DIY methods have saved my hair. *I use each product/method and it has worked for my thick, long, curly/wavy hair.*

How To Build A Minimalist Wardrobe

How To Build A Minimalist Wardrobe

Less is more when it comes to dressing like a minimalist. But wait what is a minimalist and how do I dress like one? Being a minimalist means to separate yourself from what has no meaning to you and adding the most important things in life. There is no stress of debt, excessive material possessions, and loudness from the inner city.  Sound great, right?? Similar to the lifestyle the fashion is also very "pared-down", meaning it consist of neutral colors and prints but with great detail!

This style of dressing has been seen on the runway from top designers such as Victoria Beckham to Stella McCartney. This is not a trend that will go away over night like others. Why? Minimalist pieces can be added into any wardrobe and even when your style changes. This is the trend to make you look chic effortlessly.

If you do not like bold prints this is the dress code for you. But don't think for one minute that minimalist dressing is boring. For what it lacks in prints it makes up in silhouettes. There are no "rules" to break with this style. There are even fashion bloggers who only dress with 50-100 items or less in their minimalist wardrobe.

Now are you eager to know how to build a minimalist wardrobe? To be honest it is pretty easy to build a minimalist wardrobe. Incorporate great fabrics such as 100% cotton, silk, wool, leather, polyester-viscose blend; exquisite tailoring with cut out and asymmetrical hems; and layer multiple pieces. The minimalist color palette usually consist of black, white, grey, red, black, dark oranges and browns. The goal is to have minimal amounts of colors and clothing but putting them tougher to look effortlessly chic.

3 Ways to Style Your Basic T-Shirt

3 Ways to Style Your Basic T-Shirt

I hope you are having the best day ever!

Ok, usually when we think of a white t-shirt we think "basic", just throw on some jeans, tennis shoes and head out the door. By the way, I hate the term basic it seems so boring and unoriginal. But back to what I was saying... A t-shirt is not "basic" it is an essential in your wardrobe because it will never go out of style no matter the season. A white tee can be worn dressed up or dressed down, but even when dressed down make it interesting.

Here are a few questions I always get when I suggest adding a white t-shirts to a wardrobe.

1. Why do I need to own a white t-shirt? Its the ultimate piece to pulling an outfit together when you do not have a top in mind. Also, if you feel like your outfits is to bold throw on a white t-shirt to balance out the look.

2. Which are the best to purchase? I say opt for a 100% cotton made t-shirt so it does not shrink or hold stains into the fabric. Always, use a brighting clothing detergent to keep your white t-shirt looking brand new and crisp when worn.

3. Do I purchase a v neck or scoop neck? Purchase both! You need both because depending on what you are wearing with the t-shirt it can make you look sexier or comfortable. For example, a v neck is perfect for date night and a scoop neck is perfect for work or places you DO NOT want the "girls" peeking.

Below I am going to show you how to make your basic t-shirt look not so "basic".

Pick up a pack of 3 from your local department store or be innovative and buy a not so traditional white t-shirt such as one with an asymmetrical hem like the one below. *Do not waste your money on expensive white t-shirts that will fade after being worn a few times.

Remember to wear your white t-shirt to reflect your personal style. How do you like to wear yours? Let me know below.
