Instant Beauty Recap

Instant Beauty Recap

Heyyy PL's!

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Instant Beauty class presented by Precious Sanders a Birmingham, Al makeup artist. Her class was AMAZING because not only did she show a live demonstration on how to complete a everyday look but it was also her BIRTHDAY! I loved that she showed the ladies how to get a long lasting look without breaking the bank and SANG during each application. It was entertaining and interesting to see her techniques. Often we think we need to use high end products because that is what everyone is hyping up. To be honest a great look can be completed with drugstore or beauty supply cosmetics. Below is the recap of all the things I loved about the Instant Beauty class!

Over 30 ladies came and left with knowledge on proper makeup application.

MUA Precious telling the ladies about the beautiful Milani Cosmetics Rose Powder Blush, which is a perfect blush for all skin tones! Can we all agree that her dress was sooo cute, it was custom made by Splashedbydkg for this Lux lady!
Make sure to blend, blend, blend!

After getting super glamorous the model rocked her look around the room to display the perfect application for oily skin!

Having the Instant Beauty class was a perfect way to spend her birthday!
To top off the beautiful event she had a great makeup bar including eyeshadows, lashes, and lip products.

Overall, the class is one you do not want to miss in the future. She was so sweet and full of knowledge for all the up and coming makeup artist. What is your favorite drugstore product? Do you recommend any beauty supply cosmetics?

Quick Hair Ideas for School

Quick Hair Ideas for School

Heyyy PL's!!!

Welcome back to part two of the three part series: Back to School the Lux Way! Make sure to check out part one for outfit inspiration + how to get a coupon code to help with your back to school shopping.

I am sure you can figure out that we are going to be discussing hair! When growing up my hair took majority of my time when getting ready for school. I have thick, long, curly dark brown/blackish hair so throwing it in a pony tail or bun where my only 2 choices. As I got older I started to think of cute quick hair ideas for school. Those are the ones I am going to share with you today. Neither of the hair styles require heat and can be done with wet hair! :)  I still use some of these quick hair ideas for when I am pressing for time getting ready for work. Enjoy!

#1: The Easy Side Braid

Step 1: Gather all hair on one side or in the back.
Step 2: Secure with an elastic or hair tie.
Step 3: Divide hair into two sections.
Step 4: Holding both sections place a hole in he middle of one section and pull the other section through. (continue until all hair is braided)
Step 5: Secure bottom with elastic.
This hair style is great for those that do not know how to braid.

#2: The Twist Away

Step 1: Grab a section of hair in the front and twist until the end, secure in the middle of the head towards the back.
Step 2: Do step #1 again with a section on both sides of the head. Do this three times = 6 sections.
Step 3: Gather all hair and twist at nap of hair, secure with an elastic.
Step 4: Place hair in bun or wear twisted down.

Let me know which one you try in the comments below. :)

Part 1: Back to School the Lux Way

Part 1: Back to School the Lux Way

Happy Monday!!!

Welcome to part one of the three part series: Back to School the Lux Way!!!

The summer is over for some and others have one more week before a new chapter starts (lucky you). The first day of school is so exciting because it's the day you see all of your friends and get the best dressed title! I remember staying up the night before just imagining how cute my new clothes will look and how I will do my hair. This usually lasted the first week then reality started to set in that test were on the way. If a hard test was that day I always tried to look cute so mentally I felt awesome. With studying hard and wearing my cute outfit I always aced those test. Ok, maybe it was all the studying...but I like to think it was both. :)

Tip* Make sure you try on all your outfits and put them together the night before to cut morning time*

I know many of you are headed back to high school or college so I created 5 Lux looks that are affordable, comfortable, chic and will help you gain that best dressed title! Enjoy!!! XOXO

ELF Haul + Blue Smokey Eye

ELF Haul + Blue Smokey Eye

*Hi Beautiful PL's*

Today we will be discussing makeup and I will show you how to create a Blue Smokey Eye!! (Double the FUN) I have really been perfecting my craft lately and wanted to share with you where to find inexpensive products that are great for beginners. (If you would like a full list please email) If you are new to wearing makeup or living on a budget Eyes Lips Face Cosmetics is the perfect product line for you! They were the first makeup products I purchased when I was in highschool and I continue to purchase them. I will warn you that they do not have a wide variety of foundation shades for deep skin tones. That is the only thing I wish they would change or add. Besides that they are great for lip products, blushes, eyeshadows, tools and etc.

The total of this haul only cost $12! The prices per piece range from $0.40 to $2.00. Yes they are that cheap and the products are good quality for the price. I hope you enjoy this ELF Haul! XOXO

Lip Products: Pink Lemonade | Cherry Tart | Maple Sugar
Lashes: Natural
Nail Polishes: Coral Dream | Jazzy Berry | Cranberry | Mahogany

Custom Compact with Mirror -The compact is perfect for travel and a place to put your four favorites shadows.

The shadows have magnetic strip on the back. You can purchase the compact from ELF or place the pans in your Z palette. I created my own custom compacts below.
Smokey Eye Palette
 Top left: moon dust
Top right: truly pink
Bottom left: Teal
Bottom right: Navy
Neutral Eye Palette
Top left: wheat
Top right: peach fizz
Bottom left: golden glow
Bottom right: drift wood
I use these colors for my brow bone or to add warmth to the eye.
Top left: wisteria
Top right: sage
Bottom left: pink ice

Below is a presentation of how well the shadows blend and the pigmentation. Enjoy!

Blue Smokey Eye
Step 1: Apply Teal over lid and blend your life away. Lol. Do not carry over the crease.

Step 2: Apply Moon Dust in crease, blend, blend blend in small circular motions.
Step 3: Apply Navy into outer V area. Yes, blend some more. You do not want to see where the blue and navy meet.

(For some reason the shadow looks green here)
Step 4: Apply black liner. I applied a wing but it is not mandatory.
Step 5: Apply Navy to the bottom and blend out with Moon Dust.

Step 6: Apply Mascara to top and bottom lashes.

Finished Look

Have you tried ELF Cosmetics? If so, what are your favorite products?

Hey Beautiful PL's

How was your weekend? Mine was great I got the opportunity to be featured in a magazine. I can't wait to show you the finished photos and actual magazine spread. On set I wore one of my New NYX Cosmetics Suede Liquid Lipsticks in Pink Lust. I thought this would be the perfect time to see if they are long lasting and could beat the heat. All of the girls were trying to figure out what I was wearing. Once I told them it was a $7.00 Nyx Cosmetics lipstick everyone was shocked! I have to say these are some AWESOME liquid lipsticks. I also tired the other two shades just to make sure I could give a great honest review on the New NYX Suede Liquid Lipsticks. July Monthly Favorites

July Monthly Favorites

Hey Beautiful PL'S

Happy Friday!! I hope you all are having a great week. My week is going superb because I get to talk to you and share my July Favorites!

I did not post a June Favorites because to be honest I didn't use anything new. I had tons of new products but loved the regimen I was currently using. However, July in Alabama is very HOT (emphasis on hot) so I had to use products that stayed in place and were not heavy on the skin. I prefer to have nothing on my skin but I do have redness and my veins show through my skin so a thin layer of foundation or powder is perfect. My 5 Minute Makeup Products includes a routine that shows how I wear my makeup in the summer.

Further more, let's get into the July Favorites. I have a few fashion products -yeah- and a lot of beauty products.

  1.  My first favorite is the magazine Mujer, I love it because my girl Roselyn Sanchez is on the cover looking fierce. She is very popular on the Lifetime show Devious Maids. Mujer magazine is written in Spanish but you can translate. :)
  2. L'Oreal True Match Crayon Concealer  - is ideal for the undereye but I love to use it as a base for my eyeshadows. I also use it to cover small acne spots on my face. It is on the thick side so I don't like to use it for my undereye area.
  3. Duo eyelash glue- I love to use the one with the application brush because it is not messy and dries very quick.
  4. L'Oreal Telescopic mascara- I use this in all of my makeup routines because it is perfect to divide and lengthen the lashes. The wand makes it very easy to coat the bottom lashes without getting mascara in the waterline.
  5. Nyx Brow Powder- is great to use to achieve those perfect brows. I love that it comes with wax to help each hair stay in place. The brushes are too small so I use a regular angle brush.
  6. Blending brush- OMG..I cannot say enough good things about this blending brush. It is amazing! I love that it is dense enough to buff out your shadows but also gentle enough so you don't loose all the product. I have used it to apply eyeshadow base, eyeshadows, and as a buffer. You can purchase off ebay here
  7. Maybelline Baby Skin primer- This primer makes your skin look amazing. I do not have large pores so it really helps to erase the small ones. I only apply round my eyes, nose and forehead. (Tip: Allow to dry before applying foundation.)
  8. Salon Perfect nail polish in Flamingo Flair is the perfect peachy color. Perfect to wear by the pool or on the beach.
  9. L'Oreal Infallible Foundation- This has been a money saver and blessing all in one! I have always used Mac foundation or L'Oreal Trumatch. However, I have been reaching for this foundation instead. I love the coverage, matte finish and color. I wish it came in more shades for all of my PL's!
  10. BH Cosmetics Wild at Heart Pallet- This is one of my favorites palettes from BH Cosmetics, I love that you can use the shadows wet or dry to create your look. It includes 9 different shades ranging from gold to blue.
  11. Wet n Wild Cherry Blossom- I loved this cool tone color for the summer berry lip trend. Wet n Wild has really improved their lipstick and for only $1.49 you can't complain about that price!
  12. Nyx Eyeshadow Pigment- This is pure powder gold, well without the monetary value of course. Its perfect to use in the inner tear duct, highlight or as a shadow on the the lid. The pigments are only $2 bucks! (a major steal ladies)
  13. BH Cosmetics Pro Powder- This powder is very comparable to the Mac Studio Powders but it's a fraction of the price. For only $6, this is a product you do not want to miss. I love the coverage and the amount of product you get in the compact. You can wear this powder alone or as a setting powder.
  14. Wet n Wild eyeliner pencil in natural- Put down the white eyeliner and get this liner in natural. It is my go to liner for those mornings I want my eyes to pop or when I don't use black liner. Apply it to the waterline for that fresh face look. The white can be a little harsh at times especially for everyday use.
Hair
  1. I went to Ulta looking for a hair spray that left my curls looking shiny and healthy without weighing them down. The Organx B5 weightless misting oil spray is amazing. It is not greasy even though it is named a oil mist. I love how it makes my hair smell and look with just 3 pumps.
  2. Ok, if you have been following the PinkLuxpl blog since the beginning you know I have bragged about using coconut oil to keep your hair healthy. The Palmer's Coconut Oil Formula Deep Conditioning Protein Pack is one of the best treatments I have ever used on my hair and others. It smells amazing and leaves your hair moisturized, frizz free, shiny and bouncy. This product does not leave a residue or weigh the hair down. The only downside of this product is it only comes in single packages. :( Come on Palmer's make it in a tub or bottle (please). I found mine at Walmart for only $1.29. This will continue to be a favorite month after month.
Fashion
  1. I have worn this cute little clutch wristlet to all of my July events. I love the gold and tassel detail. It is the perfect size to carry your phone, lipstick, keys, business cards and breath mints.
  2. These Justfab laceup heels have been my go to heels for July. I LOVE the cutouts, straps, and gold detail cap. The heel is only 4 1/2 inches which is comfortable for long periods of standing or walking.
That was all of my July Favorites, I hope you enjoyed this post! What were some of your favorites in July? I would love to know below.

Bloganista Mini-Con Recap

Bloganista Mini-Con Recap

Hey Beautiful PL's

Did you all have a great weekend? My weekend was filled with so much education, inspiration, motivation, and lovely women blogger bosses. I attended The Bloganista Mini-Con presented by Laura Vincent on Saturday at the Vestavia Hills Library. (side note: the library was beautiful)  The Mini-Con was hosted by the mastermind Javacia Harris Bowser founder of See Jane Write. It was so fulfilling and great to be around lady blogger bosses. If you want to learn how to build a brand or Blog Like A Boss you need to be apart of See Jane Write. I am still stoked about being there and learning so much new knowledge. Below is my recap of what I learned and photos of the smart and beautiful panelist!

Eunice Elliott of MBC 13 News was our fabulous guest. She is so encouraging and hilarious! Eunice really made me open my eyes to who I really want to be and where I want to take my brand. Words of the wise Eunice, "Everyone's information about you isn't always for you."

Chanda Temple discussed how to develop and build a buzz to help your brand, blog, or business. This was the first time I got to actually talk with Chanda and it was a very motivating conversation. She has encouraged me to go a step further in my niche. (So get ready world)
I learned the following:
  • My pitch when I discuss my blog should be 60 seconds. (Mine was like 3 minutes..horrible)
  • A PR email should include: Who, What, When, Where and Why.
  • Have a professional headshot. (Not a selfie)
  • Get your wolf pack/team together. This should include all positive people.
  • Use a hashtag before hosting an event. (Google to ensure its appropriate)
  • Plan your events 3 months in advance.
  • Include all sponsors.
Jeniese Hosey of The Je ne sais quoi is not just a fashion blogger celebrity to me but a motivation and inspiration in my life. She taught me on Saturday that there are ups and downs of being a blogger. Also, the secrets of how she gained her success.
  • Don't sell out for a new dress.
  • You will not come up with something new, just put your own spin on it.
  • It's NOT ok to be a headless blogger. (I am so guilty)
  • Go after what you want and don't give up.
  • Be you!
Blog Like a Boss Panelists: Heather Brown of My Life Well Loved, Javacia Harris Bowser of See Jane Write, and Jennifer Dome King of Stellar Fashion and Fitness. These ladies are bosses when it comes to blogging.

I learned the following from these blogger bosses:
  • Never over commit.
  • Focus on one thing and Rock it.
  • Be consistent.
  • Create great content.
  • Take clear pictures.
  • Create a media kit.

Magazine Panelists: Maacah Davis of Belladonna Magazine, Kaneshia Sims of Red Pash Magazine, Annie DeVries of Hoffman Media. If you want to create and publish your own magazine these are the "IT" ladies.
I learned the following form these magazine bosses:
  • Meet deadlines when you work with a magazine.
  • Be prepared to do some work.
  • Get in contact with new started magazines to gain experience.
~Fun with the ladies~

I was the WINNER of this AMAZING cookbook by Martie Duncan and Chanda Temple. I never win anything so I am super excited to have this signed copy. Birmingham Best Bites includes favorite recipes from Birmingham, Al restaurants, bars, and food trucks. I look forward to making some cocktails!
There are not enough words to express how amazing Javacia Harris Bowser is in my life. I went from thinking I can to knowing I can to doing it, with her encouragement. Thanks for being a wolf in my pack!
Great fashion minds think alike! We were so twinsies! :)

Every time I leave a See Jane Write event I feel amazing. I cannot wait until the next event!
