3 Steps to Perfect Holiday Makeup

3 Steps to Perfect Holiday Makeup

Hi PL's

It is officially the week of Christmas 2015! Yayyyy!!!! I have been looking forward to this week all year, how about you?

We are are rushing to get last minute gifts and last minute outfits to look great on Christmas. Calm down and create this fun sparkly makeup look for the holidays. This  makeup look will be perfect for Christmas or New Years. If you are not great at applying eye shadow just yet, no worries there is none required for this look! (well kinda). You are only 3 steps away from the perfect holiday makeup look.

::Top to Bottom::
L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara | Toast | L'Oreal Telescopic |
L'Oreal Truematch Concealer (W6/W7) | Angled Eyeliner Brush | Liquid Liner

Step 1: Using the concealer prime eyelids. This will help the gold eyeshadow stick to the lid.

Step 2: Apply eyeshadow (or gold eyeliner if your fancy) using the angled eyeliner brush to the lid creating your first wing. Make it a little thicker to make space for the second wing.

Step 3: Use the black liquid liner to apply the second wing closer to your eyelashes. Apply mascara to top and bottom then you are done. Viola!

Enjoy your party, dinner, or event with this easy and quick makeup look. Add a red or nude lip for the perfect holiday look.

Must Have Fall/Winter Dusters & Coats

Must Have Fall/Winter Dusters & Coats

In the fall months dusters are my go to items when I just want something on my arms but nothing to heavy like a jacket or coat.

I love to wear dusters over a basic outfit to make it look layered and lux. Dusters are less expensive and thinner than coats or jackets.

Since it is still 65-70 degrees in the afternoon in Alabama (yes in December) I like to keep a duster close by for the cooler nights.

Throw on a t-shirt, jeans, cute pair of heels and a duster for the perfect lux outfit. Dress up your duster with belt to add a little detail.

Here are some of my favorite affordable dusters. I love color so I had to include some pops of color even for fall/winter time.

As much as I love dusters I am looking forward to wearing some of my favorite coats this winter.

It seems like as soon as I pull all my coats out of storage it gets warm again...ugh. My closet is super unorganized because I am not sure what to pack up and what to keep hanging up. I will be  Fall cleaning again very soon.

However, my coats are on stand by and anxiously wanting to be worn! Find a great statement coat or one with a belt to quench in your waist for a feminine touch of glam.

If you are in a state where it is already cold you will love these coats below.

Top 3 Affordable Photo-Ready Foundations

Top 3 Affordable Photo-Ready Foundations

During the holiday season we take a lot of photos with our families to treasure the moments. We will also be taking Christmas photos to place on Christmas cards that will go out to your family and friends. What do both of these scenarios have in common? Cameras that have flash photography. The worse thing that can happen is that you get the pictures back and you have a white cast a.k.a the Casper! Now you look like Casper (the ghost) and it is too late to redo the pictures. I hope this has not already happened to you.

Short story: Five years ago before there were tones of information on the Internet about makeup I made this big mistake and was a victim of the Casper! Yikes, it still scares me when I think about it. That is when I started trying new foundations and found 2 that I could not live without....now there are 3 that are my favorite.

As you can see she has a white cast underneath her eyes when the camera flashes on her skin. Yikes Eva Mendes!

The white cast can be caused by the following:

  • SPF in foundation is to high. If you will be taking photos with flash you should not used a foundation with a SPF 25+
  • Product contains SILICA
  • Product contains SILVER MICA
  • Product contains ZINC OXIDE
  • Product contains TITANIUM DIOXIDE
This "white cast" can come from your foundation, concealer or powder. I recommend using the Top 3 Affordable Photo-Ready Foundations below to prevent the Casper look.

L'Oreal True Match Foundation $9.99
top 3 affordable photo ready foundations

L'Oreal True Match Foundation is perfect for beginners and pro makeup artist. It is the only drugstore brand and foundation with over 20 shades, so no worries on picking the wrong shade. It is perfect for all skin tones and types. Did I mention it is amazing for flash photos? This is my go to foundation for taking photos and for everyday. Use a beauty sponge or foundation brush to buff for photo ready skin.

Revlon Photo Ready Foundation $8.49
top 3 affordable photo ready foundations

The Revlon Photo Ready Foundation can be a little scary to use if you are new to this foundation. The formula is designed to give you an air brush look and leave your skin feeling silky. However, it has been known to leave the face looking cakey and feeling tacky. This is due to the foundation is being applied to a dry face rather than a primed or moisturized face. I highly recommend using a misting spray on your beauty sponge when applying this foundation to achieve the airbrush look without the cakey or tacky finish.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation $39

Last but not least, it is the AMAZING Too Faced Born This Way Foundation. Lets take a moment of silence for this magical foundation...........!

Ok, back to the post.

This foundation was born for flash photography! If I am not using my holy grail L'Oreal True Match Foundation I am using this magical foundation. It leaves your skin feeling light but covered to perfection. It wears all day and with a little bit of oil added to the skin (add oil for dry skin) before application you are ready for Christmas pictures, parties and selfies! I recommend applying this foundation with the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for flawless coverage.

Pro Tip: *For all foundations above start with the middle of your face and work your way out to your ears and neck for perfect blending.*

I hope your pictures turn out flawless and you are not a victim of the Casper cast! Happy Holidays from PinkLux! XOXO

5 Questions You Must Ask When Buying Clothes

5 Questions You Must Ask When Buying Clothes

Ok, ladies the holidays are among us and you know what that means..holiday events, parties and family get togethers. This is also the time of the year we "shop until we drop"! With Cyber Money  and Black Friday coming up I know we will be doing a lot of shopping (I know I will), but don't get "shopping happy" and buy clothes you do not need just because they are on sale. Trust me ladies, you will regret it later while the stores are happy with your money.

I buy all of my clothes online on Cyber Monday because they are cheaper and I can usually find a great discount/promotion code. Before spending your Benjamin's (money $$) this holiday season on clothes answer these 5 questions:

1. Is this item worth the price?

Remember ALOT of items are marked up and placed with a discount to make it seem like you are getting a great deal. Look at the material and quality of the item. Don't spend $35 dollars on a polyester sweater if you can get a cashmere sweater for the same price. Also, consider if it will need to be dry cleaned or can it be washed at home. If it is dry clean only consider this a fee to wear the garment.

2.Will I be wearing this one time or adding it to my essentials list?

If you are buying an outfit for a one time event try not to spend to much money because it will end up hanging in your closet. I recommend buying items at this time of the year to add to your wardrobe essentials list. The best thing about essentials such as a little black dress (LBD) are they can be worn dressed up or dressed down and can transition throughout the year.

3. Can I find this style somewhere cheaper?

Right now is the time to be looking at the deals and stores that you will be shopping at on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Once you have your list together compare and contrast! This will save you so much money and time because you won't have regrets later when you see that must have handbag cheaper at Macy's.

Short story: Two years ago I wanted a brown satchel handbag sooooo bad that once I saw it in Dillard's on Black Friday I purchased it! I didn't think about it because I wanted it....not my best purchase. Dillard's was the first store I went into once I got into the mall...lets fast forward 2 hours. I walk into Macy's at the other mall and see the same handbag for $200 LESS!!! I was so upset but I was out of town so I couldn't go back and return the handbag. This situation taught me to create a strategy even for shopping.

4. Do I have anything to wear with this?

If you see something that you like and have to think more than 20 second about if you have something else to wear with it then you probably shouldn't buy it. Remember to shop smart not quick! This will save you coins and give you extra money to buy things you really want. Also, you won't have to buy other items to wear with one item.

I can't lie I have this problem when it comes to shoes. I buy multiple pairs of shoes with plans on buying the outfit later... "Hello everyone, my name is Christina and I am addicted to shoes!" I am working on this ladies...pray for me. :)

5. Will this fit if I gain a little weight?

This is a new question I started asking myself because over the holidays I always gain 2-3 pounds- it's all the delicious food. However, Cyber Monday is after I have eaten and I don't realize that the clothes I bought might be a little snug in 5-7 days (shipping time). Don't buy clothes with the anticipation of losing weight in the new year. Buy clothes that will fit you now and if you do lose weight they can be worn with a belt or worn oversized.

Check your Christmas list and make sure your getting your wardrobe essentials this holiday season.

Fall Hair Pick-Me Ups

Fall Hair Pick-Me Ups

Fall has finally arrived in Alabama which means it is time to bring out those beautiful sweaters and boots we have been dying to wear! It also means it is time to change up your hair routine. We all use heat protectant, UV protectant and the other 50 types of protectants to keep our hair healthy in the summer but when it comes to other months we end up slacking.

It was about 2 years ago I started noticing my hair was dry and breaking off with just a touch or finger comb. I couldn't understand why my hair was breaking, I did the usual wash, condition and deep condition but still the same issue. I thought I was sick or worse... going bald! (I was super dramatic) I also thought maybe is was my hair products so I did a little research and realized my hair products had "ALCOHOL"in the ingredients. (Ex: Pantene) Alcohol is harmful to the hair because it dries out the scalp and hair cuticle, which causes hair to be damaged. The products that contain alcohol also contain a silicon base. The silicon base makes your hair seem like it is healthy but however these products coat the hair instead of making the hair healthy and moisturized from within the cuticle.

Hair Myth: Only the sun/hot days damage your hair because of the heat and UV rays.

Fact: The truth is that even on cloudy dry days your hair gets damaged! Why? The moisture is being sucked out the hair cuticle and not being manually applied by you daily. In comparison to sun damage, the dryness of the fall crisp air can do the same if not worse damage to your hair. It doesn't matter if your hair is straight or curly you must protect and moisturize your hair year around.

How to Fix Problem: Does your hair ever feel like dried out hay (yes the stuff on a farm)? If so try the Fall Hair Pick-Me Ups below. These products and DIY methods have saved my hair. *I use each product/method and it has worked for my thick, long, curly/wavy hair.*

How To Build A Minimalist Wardrobe

How To Build A Minimalist Wardrobe

Less is more when it comes to dressing like a minimalist. But wait what is a minimalist and how do I dress like one? Being a minimalist means to separate yourself from what has no meaning to you and adding the most important things in life. There is no stress of debt, excessive material possessions, and loudness from the inner city.  Sound great, right?? Similar to the lifestyle the fashion is also very "pared-down", meaning it consist of neutral colors and prints but with great detail!

This style of dressing has been seen on the runway from top designers such as Victoria Beckham to Stella McCartney. This is not a trend that will go away over night like others. Why? Minimalist pieces can be added into any wardrobe and even when your style changes. This is the trend to make you look chic effortlessly.

If you do not like bold prints this is the dress code for you. But don't think for one minute that minimalist dressing is boring. For what it lacks in prints it makes up in silhouettes. There are no "rules" to break with this style. There are even fashion bloggers who only dress with 50-100 items or less in their minimalist wardrobe.

Now are you eager to know how to build a minimalist wardrobe? To be honest it is pretty easy to build a minimalist wardrobe. Incorporate great fabrics such as 100% cotton, silk, wool, leather, polyester-viscose blend; exquisite tailoring with cut out and asymmetrical hems; and layer multiple pieces. The minimalist color palette usually consist of black, white, grey, red, black, dark oranges and browns. The goal is to have minimal amounts of colors and clothing but putting them tougher to look effortlessly chic.

3 Ways to Style Your Basic T-Shirt

3 Ways to Style Your Basic T-Shirt

Heyyy!!!

I hope you are having the best day ever!

Ok, usually when we think of a white t-shirt we think "basic", just throw on some jeans, tennis shoes and head out the door. By the way, I hate the term basic it seems so boring and unoriginal. But back to what I was saying... A t-shirt is not "basic" it is an essential in your wardrobe because it will never go out of style no matter the season. A white tee can be worn dressed up or dressed down, but even when dressed down make it interesting.

Here are a few questions I always get when I suggest adding a white t-shirts to a wardrobe.

1. Why do I need to own a white t-shirt? Its the ultimate piece to pulling an outfit together when you do not have a top in mind. Also, if you feel like your outfits is to bold throw on a white t-shirt to balance out the look.

2. Which are the best to purchase? I say opt for a 100% cotton made t-shirt so it does not shrink or hold stains into the fabric. Always, use a brighting clothing detergent to keep your white t-shirt looking brand new and crisp when worn.

3. Do I purchase a v neck or scoop neck? Purchase both! You need both because depending on what you are wearing with the t-shirt it can make you look sexier or comfortable. For example, a v neck is perfect for date night and a scoop neck is perfect for work or places you DO NOT want the "girls" peeking.

Below I am going to show you how to make your basic t-shirt look not so "basic".

Pick up a pack of 3 from your local department store or be innovative and buy a not so traditional white t-shirt such as one with an asymmetrical hem like the one below. *Do not waste your money on expensive white t-shirts that will fade after being worn a few times.

Remember to wear your white t-shirt to reflect your personal style. How do you like to wear yours? Let me know below.

Must Have Fall Shoes

Must Have Fall Shoes

Hey Beautiful PL's!!!

I hope you are having a great season thus far and ready to step up your shoe game! I have put together some of the hottest shoes of the season. They are an excellent choice for everyday but can also be worn dressed up or dressed down. You know I am all about having pieces that are easy to transition from season to season so some may have open toes.

Even though the fall season usually includes wearing black, brown, or grey adding a pop of red and/or pink is also a perfect way to spruce up your wardrobe.

I am loving the suede, fringe, quilted, polka dots and of course bow trends. A lady can never have too many pairs of shoes with bows, right???  I am also a HUGE lover of all things quilted so of course I had to throw in a pair of quilted tall riding boots. I love the extra lace up detail on the back, it gives them an extra touch of glam. Which are your favorites?

All shoes are under $50, yes including the tall black fringe boots! Awesome, I know!!

Shoes can be purchased HERE

Hi Beautiful PL's!!!!!!

You ladies really made me feel special.

This was not just a meet up it was also an evening of education. I taught a live tutorial on how to contour the nose. I showed some of my contouring tips and how to NOT achieve the MJ nose. The ladies loved it and best of all they came in not knowing they could contour their nose but left with knowledge on how to do it best!

I used cream and powder contour to show them how to make the look last all day, because who has time for touch ups?
